self employed challenges

As a self employed person, finding Global Health Insurance is not easy. I have looked into several Short Term Health Insurance policies, but we don't know if this type of Health Insurance will cover international claims. Have any of you guys had experience with health care cost in other countries? How does all of this work? Thanks for any tips you guys might have.
