I am very interested in HOW Zoomers will participate to increase their Learning opportunities AFTER retirement; And for what purpose will you use your learning experiences. Thanks.
Hi Joe-
In southeastern New Brunswick, we have a new program starting, the Tantramar Seniors College. It's non-profit and will involve retirees teaching other retirees. A similar program has been running in Prince Edward Island for a few years, and it is doing very well. Courses here will run three terms in a year, winter, spring and fall. One membership fee of $100 will allow students to take as many courses as they would like. Courses include Intro to Computers, Memoir Writing, Digital Photography, Vegetarian Cooking, Music Appreciation, Bridge for Beginners, Watercolour, Creative Writing, French conversation, Quilting, Beginner Ukelele, Curling, Reupholstering. And that's just the beginning. To me this is an excellent opportunity for Zoomers.
Wow, that sounds great. We have nothing like this that I know of in BC. I was planning on auditing courses at university after retirement. A seniors' college would do well here. Did you follow the PEI format and how would one begin? This is something I would be interested in. Looking forward to your reply....Sherri
There's a European model called U3A (University of the Third Age) which is being adopted worldwide. A Google search on "U3A" bring up all kinds of info.
