Where Grownups Make Friends

When is our Government division for licencing of seniors at the age of 80 going to realize that a written exam is not the answer to having a competent driver on the roads today. A drivers road test is the best way to tell if one is best to be behind the wheel of a car. The person doing the testing can ask some questions if he/she would also be prudent to evaluate the driver. I have seen elderly drivers being helped to get behind the wheel by their partners, backing into traffic in parking lots not looking behind to see if any cars OR PEDESTRIANS are behind their vehicle or trying to park and hitting both vehicles front and back of theirs as they lose sight perseption with age.
Are you feeling confident driving and would you not want to have someone tell you that you could be the next fatality or the cause of one or more because you are really not able to drive safely or smartly on our busy roads today. I feel that I still am BUT if the day comes that I am a hazard to you and our loved ones then I will give up my licence.

Most people know their limitations as they age. We cant see as well at night. Reaction time slows down and we get tired faster on long trips. Its more difficult to back in and out of confined parking spaces. Complicated intersections could be a problem as well.

Most of us compensate for those limitations like avoiding driving after dark or in rush hour.

A car drivers road test is the most important thing that all of us have to undergo to get to drive our own car. Sometimes people need to take exams to get a license to know if they have psychological and mental problem.
